Dear Friends,

We are approaching an important milestone for California Common Cause. Since 2010, we have trained 195 young people at our annual Student Activist Training. This July, we have the opportunity to make it more than 200. Thanks to supporters like you, we’ve been able to mentor and train talented young activists that we can depend on to continue the fight to hold our government accountable and carry on Common Cause’s mission to rebuild our democracy.

But we need your help once more to train the next generation of democracy leaders at our Student Activist Training July 13-15th.

We have not met our fundraising goal to put on our training. Will you please help us cross the finish line?

This training costs Common Cause $15,000 but is completely free for students and is invaluable to the future of our democracy. We’ve already been talking with this year’s trainees, and they’re thrilled to be gaining tools to create a more accountable, inclusive democracy. Here is what one of our new trainees has to say:

I am Berenice Ballinas, attending University of California, Merced, studying political science with a minor in community research in service. I serve as the current Legislative Director for the student association and on the UCSA Board. One of my biggest concerns in our democracy is that the voice of the people is not being heard. It is critical that students organize in bringing awareness in causes we care about, especially with our current political climate.

I am honored to be chosen because through my advocacy work I have been able to gain a lot of experience and focus on what really affects our students. It is an honor to be attending this training because I will be among other leaders making a difference in their community.

I hope to learn how other communities are impacted and understand how I can be of some help or bring awareness to the issues they are facing. – Berenice Ballinas, University of California, Merced

Will you support Berenice and other students like her so that they can attend this year’s training?

Each and every dollar goes a long way in allowing Common Cause to create a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students.

We provide travel, lodging, meals, and materials, and bring excellent speakers from across the state to share their expertise but we can’t do it without the support of members like you. Please consider pitching in today so that Common Cause can launch the next generation of activists.
